Dormitories for International Students
OKU has dormitories for international students in two locations, on the Kashiwara Campus and on the outside of the Kashiwara Campus.
Their details are as follows:
【1】 International Students Dormitory (on the Kashiwara Campus)

(1)In addition to the monthly rental fee, the following fees also need to be paid:

- Bedding is also a rental and changed every month.

* The bedding rental fees for the entire duration of stay are to be paid upfront in one payment when moving in. -
(3)Each floor is designated for either men or women.

(4)No smoking is allowed on the premises of the Kashiwara Campus.

(1)In addition to monthly rental fees, the following need to be paid upfront when moving in.

It will be entrusted when moving in, and used to pay the room rent for the month when the tenant moves out.
However, if there is delinquency in payment, the security deposit will be used to pay the delinquency. - A cleaning fee of 10,000 yen must be paid when moving out:
- The Cleaning fee will be used to cover expenses spent on cleaning, recovery and repair upon moving out, and spent on the fixtures and consumables used in the common space. This fee will not be returned.

(2)At the Yamamoto International Students Dormitories, custodians and Resident Assistants (RA) support dormitory residents.

- Duty hours: From 14:00 to 18:00 except Wednesdays, Thursdays, holidays, and the New Year’s holidays)
- Resident Assistants (RAs)
- Resident Assistants are the Japanese students who support international students.
RA Time is set to support international students concerning daily life issues, and a monthly interchange event is held as well.
RAs share rooms with international students, which means some rooms are shared by international students and Japanese students.

(3)Bedding
- Bedding is a rental and changed every month.
The bedding rental fee is included in the monthly room rent. -
(4)No smoking is allowed in a room.
Private Housing
Generally, real estate agents refer prospects to available rooms. When renting, in addition to monthly rents, payments frequently need to be made for a security deposit, key money, commissions to the agent, common service expenses, and premiums for fire and earthquake insurances; roughly four to five times the monthly rent becomes necessary. Monthly rent varies between 30,000 yen to 60,000 yen for a single-occupant, 1-room studio.
Guarantor
Generally, when renting a private apartment in Japan, a guarantor is required.
From January 2018, OKU recommends international students to use the service offered by the private guarantee company, Global Trust Networks (GTN) when renting private housing. The company offers a rental guarantor service.

Living Expenses
In general, living expenses in Japan are said to be high on a world level. The table below shows typical living expenses for a month.

Part-Time Jobs
If you want to work part-time, you should first consult your academic advisor and the International Section because you have to obtain a “conditional work permit” from the Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau before you start working.
With the work permit, you can work for up to but not exceeding 28 hours in total per week (working hours for a day may vary). During university holidays, you may work for up to but not exceeding 8 hours per day.
Some types of jobs are not allowed. For example, you cannot work for adult entertainment businesses (such as bars, cabarets, night clubs, massage parlors, mahjong parlors, pachinko parlors, amusement arcades, love hotels, or amusement arcades).
